In ChatGPT, add a custom MCP connector with OAuth sign-in and this URL:

ChatGPT sends you to TradieBridge to sign in and approve the connection. Turn it on in a chat, and ChatGPT can answer from your Simpro backup.

Before you start

  • A TradieBridge account with Simpro connected. Paste a Simpro API key into TradieBridge and the first backup starts straight away.
  • A ChatGPT plan that lets you add a custom MCP connector. On a Business, Enterprise or Edu workspace, an admin may need to allow it.

ChatGPT also reads Xero, Verizon Connect, Deputy, The Fleet Office, Dialpad and Moveware through the same link, if you connect them.

Add TradieBridge to ChatGPT

OpenAI moves this menu often, so the names below may differ a little on your screen.

  1. In ChatGPT, open Settings.
  2. Find where to add a custom connector or MCP server. Look under Apps, Connectors or Plugins.
  3. If there is no option to add one, turn on Developer mode in Settings, then look again.
  4. Choose to create a connector. Name it TradieBridge, paste the link above as the server URL, and choose OAuth for authentication.
  5. ChatGPT sends you to TradieBridge. Sign in, then approve the connection.

Use it in a chat

  1. Start a new chat.
  2. Open the + menu and choose TradieBridge from your connectors.
  3. Ask a question, such as “Which jobs blew their quote on hours this month?”

If it doesn’t work

  • ChatGPT can’t find your records: check that Simpro shows as connected in TradieBridge, and that its first backup has finished.
  • The connector shows no tools: remove it and add it again, then approve the connection in TradieBridge.
  • You can’t add a connector at all: your plan or your workspace admin may not allow custom MCP connectors yet.

What ChatGPT can do with it

  • Read every record TradieBridge has backed up for your business, as the person who connected it.
  • Start a sync or an export inside TradieBridge.
  • Send us feedback in your words, once you agree to what it says.

It can’t change anything in Simpro or any other system you connect. TradieBridge never writes to them. It never sees tax file numbers, bank details or birth dates.

Disconnect it

In TradieBridge, open Connect to AI and click Disconnect beside ChatGPT. Its access stops straight away.

What to ask

  • Which finished jobs haven’t been invoiced yet?
  • Which jobs blew their quote on hours this month?
  • Do the timesheets match last week’s pay run?
  • Is anyone on site at Job 4281 right now?

Questions

Straight answers.

Can ChatGPT connect to Simpro directly?
Not on its own. ChatGPT needs an MCP server that can read Simpro. TradieBridge is one: it backs up Simpro through Simpro’s official API, and ChatGPT reads that backup through a custom MCP connector.
Which ChatGPT plans support custom MCP connectors?
OpenAI changes this often. Custom MCP connectors have been available on paid plans, sometimes behind Developer mode. On Business, Enterprise and Edu workspaces, an admin decides who can add one.
Why can’t I find where to add a connector?
OpenAI has moved it several times, between Connectors, Apps and Plugins. Look in Settings for a way to add a custom MCP server. If there is none, turn on Developer mode in Settings, or ask your workspace admin.

Back it up tonight. Ask it tomorrow.
